We are hiring!
Many thanks for your interest in our lab.
We warmly welcome new members from diverse backgrounds. Our priority is together to foster a supportive and collaborative learning and work environment. We value creative thinking, intellectual honesty, and a growth mindset.
From Shijing: While I worked at the Toyota Research Institute in California, I encountered the Japanese term "mendomi". It's a Toyota leadership concept that means treating colleagues like family. In our group, we expect every member to engage with their teammates with respect, kindness and understanding.
If you are interested in joining our team, please reach out here. If you do not hear back from us in two weeks, feel free to follow up with an email to shijing[at]uw.edu or kchong99[at]uw.edu.
Open positions
Our work is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together materials science, robotics, and artificial intelligence to address global energy and climate challenges.
Postdocs
We welcome applicants with a background in materials chemistry who have an interest in lab automation, as well as those from a statistics/machine learning background who are interested in AI for clean energy.
Prospective Ph.D. students
We are actively looking for new Ph.D. students. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply to the Ph.D. program at UW’s Mechanical Engineering Department by the deadline of December 15. During the application process, please reach out directly to Shijing to discuss research interests and potential projects.
In the academic year of 2024 - 2025, we are in search of 2 talented graduate students in the research direction of AI-guided materials synthesis.
UW Master and Undergraduate students
We welcome current UW students to explore research opportunities with us. Our projects are ideal for both current and incoming students who are considering applying for PhD programs. We seek team members who can commit to projects that typically last for at least two quarters, with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.
UW Undergraduate Students
Our lab is always excited to welcome undergraduate students interested in research. Typically, each undergraduate is paired with a graduate student mentor to provide strong, hands-on guidance throughout their project.
If you're interested in joining our lab, please reach out to a current graduate student and discuss your research interests with them.
